We’ve been pretty poor at keeping things up-to-date, both here and on the website. We’ll be working on these things shortly, but right now, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be celebrating the Coronation with a new book o’ shite from Dale Prudent…. Watch this space!

Welcome to 2018. We’re starting as we threatened to, with the publication of Retail Island, Christopher Nosnibor’s first longform work of fiction in five years.

It’s available to order in print or as an eBook from our store front here.

It will be avaiable globally via Amazon and most other major on-line retailers before long.

The office’s chemistry provided a source of fascination as Robert whiled away many long hours wondering how to fill his time. In between reading around the various reports on strategy he had been passed, and browsing for reports on Medico and their operational methodology, he found himself contemplating the sexual dynamics of the workplace. Something about the office workspace was in itself erotic to a certain extent, albeit in an abstract sense. The crisp, linear clinicality of the office space, despite its open plan, seemed to gleam with erotic potential based around a sense of wrongness and incongruity. Another factor was the austerity of the requisite work attire: this somehow had the opposite of the desired effect, namely in that rather than providing an asexual uniformity, the suit, the skirt, the shirt, the blouse, seemed to accentuate physical aspects in a semi-unobtainable light, likely to create both a mystique and a certain frisson. This was common to many working environs. But while one would likely expect pockets of sexual tension in any office, Medico seemed to practically steam and crackle with pheromones and musk. Perfect strangers engaged in casual acts of frotteurism and Toucherism as Robert noticed colleagues subtly and not-so-subtly making physical contact, brushing past one another in tight spaces, even overtly making excessive and unnecessary contact while passing in corridors. Kraft Ebbing would have had a field day observing the interactions as groins surreptitiously rubbed against buttocks, hands swept against hips and breasts brushed backs and chests.

Ordinarily, these behaviours were merely alluded to in the workplace. At Medico, there was nothing simmering or beneath the surface: the kinks were rampant and rife. Was it something in the air – or the air-conditioning – which provoked this endless demonstration of sexual psychopathies and perverse paraphilias?

from Retail Island by Christopher Nosnibor, out 1 January 2018. Available to order now, here.

Was it something in the air – or the air-conditioning? Something strange is going on at the office of multinational pharmaceutical company, Medico, and the adjacent new the retail park.

Robert Ashton is hired to work on the mysterious Project Mushroom and finds himself in the middle of a strange and dangerous situation involving mind control, riots, bad science, and sexual deviance.

A taut dystopian thriller in the tradition of JG Ballard, Retail Island is dark and perverse, and an unsettling tale of modern times.

Clinicality Press is proud to announce the arrival of the debut novel from Ellis Johnson. ‘Peep Book’ takes Michael Powell’s infamous movie about voyeurism and retells it through a digital lens. A tale of dark psychopathy in the age of social media, it’s a classic postmodernist work, an exercise in retelling and social commentary that still resonates with the greater depths of human interaction. Witty and accessible, it’s a killer read.

‘Peep Book’ is being published as a paperback and e-book by Clinicality Press, and will available globally through all on-line retailers shortly after. The paperback, priced £7.50 (or local current equivalent), will be available to order through all conventional retailers also, and is available now directly via the Clinicality storefont (click the image below to puchase).

The blurb:

‘Peep Book’ is a cautionary tale for the networked society. Ellis Johnson takes Michael Powell’s infamous movie about voyeurism and retells it through a digital lens. Who is watching you? Would you meet them? Would you bed them? If not, why not? Louise is a bored 40-something. Joshua Spleen is a web designer looking through a glass darkly. Together they are on a collision course for sex, murder and mayhem. Cathy Collis is a distinguished peer and knight of the realm. Monteray is a hippy pathologist working in the newly outsourced Upatho of Jeremy Hunt’s wet dreams. Cutting corners where crime solving is concerned can only lead to the kind of carnage that ‘Peep Book’ relates. Maybe it’s best to leave your smart phone at home!

About the author:

After winning a country cash prize for her creative writing it looked as though Ellis Johnson’s future as an author was ensured. Instead, she took a detour into the film industry, worked as a teacher, and became an activist. Taking a Masters at Goldsmiths, University of London, under the tutelage of Jennifer Bajorek, ensured that what little was left of her brains was completely scrambled and so she currently resides in the Garden of England where she manages to avoid owning a dog and instead takes a leisurely approach to village life involving herself in the church and other suitable pursuits for a ‘grown-ass’ woman.

We’re elated to announce the publication of Christopher Nosnibor’s new book, The RAGE Monologues, in print, today. To celebrate the launch, we’re offering it at a special offer dicount price with 25% off the retail price of £5.99 (or domestic currency equivalent) for a limited period only.

The blurb: Modern life is full of niggles and frustrations. It’s also bursting with ballaches and tempestuous turmoils on a global scale. What is it that winds you up or grinds your gears? Sometimes, it’s an accumulation of the little things that push you to, or over, the brink. So, what gets under your skin, gnaws away at your gut, and drives you crazy? For Christopher Nosnibor, the answer is pretty much everything. Evolved as a spoken word project over the course of three years, ‘The Rage Monologues’ is the hoarse, enraged, spittle-spraying voice of one man against the world. Politics, media, poetry, and post office queues – it’s open season in this collection of splenetic, profanity-laden tirades. By turns amusing, sad, and simply ire-fuelling, ‘The Rage Monologues’ is a relentless, uncompromising, and eye-poppingly vitriolic tour de force.

Dates, prices, and perhaps some excerpts to follow. Keep watching this space.

While we’ve been away, we’ve been looking at our publishing methods in comparison to other publishers. And we’ve decided we’re doing exactly the right thing, ploughing our own furrow. There’s so much snobbery and elitism in the industry, and we want no part in it. Therefore, our objective remains unchanged: to publish great books that we find exiting, regardless of trends. Our books will continue to look like no-one else’s, instead of following the herd. And we still have no budget.

Still, during our haitus, we’ve discovered that many publishers, partcularly indies, make a big deal of unveiling the cover art to their forthcoming publications. Most of them seem to feature male torsos, ripped and glistening, or hot chicks in underwear, regardless of genre. It’s not out style, but we thought we’d nevertheless make a deal of the grand reveal for not just one, but two, of three titles scheduled for release later this autumn.

Feast your eyes… and watch this space.

Eight years on from his last ‘29 Days of February’ project, Christopher Nosnibor is celebrating the leap year with a limited-run publication, and Clinicality Press are proud to be involved.

As Chris writes in his blog, ‘With the 29 Days of February concept, the number of units in circulation is determined by the market, meaning that while it can’t ‘sell out’ in the first three days, if only six copies sell in the 29 days the product is available, then only six copies will exist – ever.’

This year’s ‘29 Days’ project will be published as a back-to-back A5 saddle-stitched pamphlet priced at £3.50 and an ebook priced at $1.99. We have our reasons for using different outlets for the two formats, but links to both are at the bottom of this post.

Something Must Break / Dream of the Flood will be available from midnight GMT. At Midnight on 29th February, Something Must Break / Before the Flood will be deleted and will not be republished.

‘Dream of the Flood’: A meditation on climate change and possibilities of the near future, of human interaction and solipsism.
